Dear Son #2,
As you well know, Obi-Wan Kenobi once said to Anakin Skywalker “Bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness!” Spoiler alert: he doesn’t quite listen and shortly becomes the one we all know and love; Darth Vader. Let me clarify. No, I don’t think you are Anakin Skywalker or Darth Vader, just stay with me, as I promise this is going somewhere. The point is, in all aspects of life (and definitely in Star Wars) balance is crucial for all things to work properly.
This last year you’ve mentioned to me a couple of times that you don’t feel like you belong in our family. While it makes me so sad that you think that; I also can sometimes see why you feel this way. Our family is intense, loud, and fast-moving. We are known to be bossy and impatient sometimes, turn to logic more than emotion and have an abnormally large amount of energy. Three out of five of us are first-borns, and one just thinks he is.
You, my sweet Willy, are sweet, sensitive, and insanely kind-hearted. You take your time solving problems, savour your food and think before you speak. You’re a planner, a deep-thinker and an amazing snuggler. You hate being rushed, try to avoid disappointing anyone and take so much to heart that I sometimes wonder where you keep it as it must be so big. You are generous, self-less and humble; loved by everyone that has ever had the pleasure of meeting you.

William, you bring so much to our family. You help us slow down and see what we were too rushed to look at. You remind us that emotions aren’t always a bad thing and to feel them is, in fact, a necessity. You show us the empathy, the simple joys and the hugs we really need. And, let’s be honest, without you, your two brothers growing up together would be like a never-ending Hunger Games saga.
Don’t feel like you’re completely different though my little man. You can be as crazy, as loud, as impulsive and as weird as the rest of us when you want to be. You are creative, funny, and a full-on goofball. On Friday we celebrated you turning 8-years-old. Your enthusiasm, thankfulness, excitement and sincere love of parmesan cheese brought so much joy to all of us.
William, I don’t want you to ever feel like you don’t belong.
Because buddy,
You bring balance to our force.
Love Mommy,
XOX
P.S. This is legit of photo of your popsicle creation of Han Solo being frozen in carbonite. May the force be with you.
